about me

My names Alex and that's me over there. Way before I was textured, skinned and rendered back in 1994. 'theajm' has always been my display name on various games, forums and online platforms since I was sentient enough to use a computer- and it's stuck with me up until now. Perhaps it's just the natural progression of my online output. I started creating designs and editting game footage from the age of 14 whilst I was embedded in the early 2000s online gaming scene. This was my life at the time, and directed my initial appreciation and understanding of 3D modelling and design. I wanted to learn how to create the things I was in awe of. As time went on, things changed, and electronic music eventually took pride of place in my heart. Here I really saw how the artwork I made, and visual style I idealised, can symbiotically exist on two planes simultaneously- through sound and visuals.

The technical elements in the production of 3D artwork is almost as inspiring as the final product itself for me. Here is really where I saw how the aesthetic was parallel with the phonesthetic of techno and it's surrounding genres. Combined with these interests and my own curiosity on topics like quantum physics and simulation theory, along with a great amount of exposure to 90's rave art whilst growing up. The style of artwork I produced has naturally taken a direction of technical, scientific intelligence combined with aspects of the natural organics of our percievable reality. Within these fields, I have discovered my own eye-opening parallels, but that's for another conversation...

My skillsets have always fit somewhere between the realms of graphic design and 3D animation, so when it came to the university stage of life, I completed a course in visual communications to make sure I wasn't to pigeon-hole my practise and was able to apply all of what I do, to what I was doing. I have always believed that if you are to achieve a defined final product, however you create that is irrelevant. Experimentation, and using programs or hardware in ways they are not intended can often produce the most interesting results.
